Band Of Brilliance

Call Of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare

In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's multiplayer, the R700 is the fourth sniper rifle to be unlocked. It is much like the M40A3, except it only holds four rounds, has increased damage, and has greater recoil and sway. However, with Stopping Power, they do equal damage in most situations, making the M40A3 far superior if you plan to use Stopping Power as a perk (unless taking out players using Juggernaut, in which case the R700 is capable of killing them in one hit if shot in the chest or up, and the M40A3 can only kill with a neck or head shot). Being a low capacity bolt action rifle, the R700's greatest asset is its sheer stopping power. In Single player, you can only use this weapon in the levelThe Sins of the Father as a starting weapon.

The R700's sway is set to 6 degrees whereas all other sniper rifles are set to 4 degrees; meaning that the R700 will move more if breath isn't held, and it takes longer to steady while a player is holding their breath. It also has the worst hit detection of any sniper rifle.

Trivia

  • The R700 in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare uses the Leupold Mark 4 10x40mm LR/T M3 scope and is one of the only two scopes depicted correctly in game, the other being the one on the Barrett .50 Cal.
  • The R700 is the only weapon in the game that applies camouflage to the scope (except ACOG) as well as the gun itself. This unique look has made the weapon somewhat popular among players.
  • The R700 and G3 assault rifle share ammo, therefore allowing a player to have over 100 R700 rounds if he picks up a G3 or uses the Overkill perk to equip both weapons.
  • Many players prefer M40A3's over the R700 due to the horrible hit detection.
